This workshop aims to equip anyone who has limited knowledge, with a sound, basic understanding of lime mortars and why, how and when they should be used. It will be delivered by Tom Pollard, conservation expert and Knockelly’s resident stonemason. Topics covered will include; lime compared to cement as a building material, understanding the different types of lime and the science behind lime mortars, an introduction to different mixes and their application, and the health and safely aspects concerning lime. The course will also include a practical demonstration on mixing mortars and attendees will have the opportunity to rake out and repoint a section of wall under guidance of an experienced stonemason.
Who this workshop is for: anyone who has limited knowledge of using lime as a building material, who wishes to learn the fundamentals and gain some practical experience repointing with guidance.
Who this workshop in not for: professional trades / craftspeople, or those with an in-depth knowledge of lime mortars. Workshops geared towards those with an in-depth knowledge will be held soon. Please follow this website for information on upcoming events.
The workshop starts at 9:30am with tea & coffee, and concludes at 5pm.
Tickets cost €180, with morning tea / coffee, lunch and all relevant materials provided.
